Japan is a country that attaches importance to the protection of intellectual goods. However, in mid-2013, the total number of victims of fake and famous brands in Japan was as high as JPY 230 billion only to the Patent Office.
Because it is difficult to distinguish the authenticity of imitation products only by the five human senses, in order to stop the deterioration of this situation, JBIAA ( Japan Brand Item Appraisal Association) was officially established in November 2013.
After 2013, the circulation of luxury goods has increased significantly in the secondary market. Coupled with the increase in the consumption tax rate, transactions between individuals and online auctions have also become active.
The association considers that with this trend, the circulation of inappropriate counterfeits will increase. In November 2014, in addition to leather products and gems, it will provide identification services for high-end brand watches, precious metals, dresses and other commodities.
Since June 2015, we have provided repair service for mechanical premium watches. The identification objects began with Louis Vuitton, Chanel, and Hermès, and expanded to other brands in turn.
The association has set up two institutions:direct stores directly accepted by consumers and accredited stores accepted by evaluators trained by the association. At the same time, it also carries out joint store recruitment that can be supported by the association 's technical support.
The association was restructured in November 2020 and resumed business in February 2021. After this round of restructuring and adjustment, the association closed all sales and recycling operations and no longer set up direct stores, providing only the support of identification technology, so as to ensure the impartiality of the association 's identification.
